New Bridge Over Humbug Creek

Late in 2013, Barnson completed a year-long project for John Holland Rail to upgrade a bridge over Humbug Creek at Ungarie, near Lake Cargelligo. Not only has the project been successfully completed, but the creek is now home to increased birdlife.

The project included planning the design, addressing the environmental requirements, procuring culverts and tendering the installation. It involved Barnson’s civil and structural engineering teams, as well as surveyors and included drilling and compaction from the geotechnical team. The staff were challenged by working in a creek bed in all weather conditions to replace the timber and concrete bridge with new precast panels. The outcome has been a larger flow capacity for Humbug Creek.

The project clearly went well, with Barson receiving an encouraging response from John Holland Project Engineer, Trini Cifrian. “This project has proved challenging in many ways and I would like to take time to thank all of you for your time and your contribution towards the end goal,“ he said. Trini also reported that the culverts are now home to a number of Fairy Martin nests
