Sam’s Liquid Waste

When it comes to removing liquid waste, it’s a dirty job – but somebody has to do it. Sam’s Liquid Waste in Dubbo specialise in hiring toilet and shower facilities for major events, as well as providing  a range of waste disposal, grease trap and septic tank servicing needs.

As they are licensed by the EPA and service NSW and Queensland, it’s important that they comply with the BCA and EPA guidelines for storage and processing liquid waste.

Barnson’s scope in this project was to take some preliminary designs and see them from development application through to construction. The building consists of an existing steel, portal frame shed, with new steel structures added for liquid waste storage and treatment. Most importantly, the slab had to be designed to support a number of tanks with a capacity of up to 60 kilolitres of liquid waste.

The new extension consists of:

  • a reinforced concrete tilt panel framed extension to the side of an existing building
  • loading and offloading pits up to 3m deep extending out from the existing shed
  • offloading awning
  • treatment shed with bunding.

Key features in the design include:

  • 10m high reinforced concrete tilt up panel walls supported by steel rafters and the main 23m clear span skillion
  • long, deep drop-off pits
  • partially open and closed wall cladding arrangements.

As well as completing the design to meet the regulations, Barnson undertook geotechnical site investigations, completed detailed the structural and civil engineering design of the steel and concrete structures, bunding, stormwater and fire services and supervision work until the project was completed.
