Client: Fire & Rescue New South Wales

Project: New Retained Fire Station in Gulgong NSW

Barnson’s Role: Project Management of tender, contracts and construction stages

Time frame: Completed July 2017

The historically significant Gulgong Fire Station on Herbert Street was constructed in 1935 and consists of a single engine bay. Due to the heritage status and size, the building was unable to be expanded to meet the requirements of Fire & Rescue NSW at the time, or for the future.

FRNSW acquired a new parcel of land at 1 Medley Street in Gulgong to construct a standard light weight (low call out) design new retained Fire Station. The modern retained Fire Station includes:

  • Male/Female Locker Rooms
  • Combined Watch Room and Training Space
  • Separate PPE and Equipment Storage
  • External Space for Yard Drills

In addition to Architectural services Barnson was engaged by FRNSW to project manage the construction of the new retained Fire Station building at Gulgong. Barnson assisted FRNSW throughout the tender, contracts and construction stages and acted as the site Superintendent.

The project was successfully completed and handed over to FRNSW by the original practical completion date nominated in the Contract documents. After over 80 years in the Herbert Street station the new Fire Station became operational on July 5th 2017.
